Register by May 14.

We are excited to let you know about the upcoming The Soul of Aging program offered through UUCA. Below is more information, and a link to our registration formPlease register by May 14; we will need at least 10 participants to move forward with the program. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Led by Cindy Atlee, in this program we will approach “the art” of aging creatively and intentionally, exploring the many soulful invitations our maturing years offer us. Ideal for those who yearn to understand, surrender to, and be transformed by the aging process. We will use poetry, story, music and art to explore topics such as: your visions of aging, living your unlived lives, completion & forgiveness, your relationship with time, how to nurture your mystical nature, and the notion of befriending your own deaths. Using a process called the Circle of Trust® approach, we will learn how to listen deeply to one another and how to create spaces that are safe for honest sharing and self-discovery. To create a retreat-like structure, all food and refreshments will be catered. This will allow participants to experience deeper, extended community. There will also be time to retreat into Muir woods, and have some personal time to recharge. The new cost for the program is $125, inclusive of meals and materials. Some scholarships are available. Register by May 14.

Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art.

In this program we will creatively approach “the art” of aging intentionally, and the many soulful invitations our maturing years offer us. In a time when so many are entering the last season of our lives, we are excited to offer this curriculum, developed for those who yearn to understand, surrender to, and be transformed by the aging process. The themes address many of the spiritual aspects of this season of your lives and include: your visions of aging, living your unlived lives, completion & forgiveness, your relationship with time, how to nurture your mystical nature, and the notion of befriending your own deaths. We will use poetry, story, music, and art to explore these topics, all within the fellowship of a trustworthy community.

Based on the pioneering work of Dr. Parker J. Palmer, a process called the Circle of Trust® approach has been developed through the Center for Courage & Renewal that is designed to create a safe, confidential, and sacred space where participants support one another in accessing the voice of their souls and inner lives.  Through this curriculum, we will learn how to listen deeply to one another and how to create spaces that are safe for honest sharing and self-discovery.

The Soul of Aging consists of ten 2 hour sessions, exploring the following topics:

  • Introductory Session – Calling in the Ancestors: Visions of Aging
  • Session Two – Spiritual Formation Across the Lifecycle: Living into the Soul’s Calling
  • Session Three – The Courage to Name and Claim Your Unlived Life
  • Session Four – Pathways to Wholeness
  • Session Five – Truth & Forgiveness: The Call to Completion
  • Session Six – Enlightenment in Slow Motion
  • Session Seven – Stories of Divestment: The Foreign Currency of Change
