UUCA’s Memorial Garden

THE UUCA MEMORIAL GARDEN is a peaceful place for remembrance and reflection. It is not a cemetery and is not intended for formal interments.  Benches are available for quiet reflection and with wooded trails that begin at the Garden, pleasant, quiet walks can be a part of the experience. The design by landscape architect Hal Quayle includes a handicapped-accessible path from the lower parking lot. A Subcommittee of the Endowment Committee oversees the Memorial Garden Fund and maintains a permanent record of all transactions.

Purpose

The Memorial Garden serves church members and friends in many ways and provides a place of natural beauty:

  • to memorialize loved ones
  • to hold ceremonies and celebrations
  • to pause in quiet reflection and contemplation

The Memorial Garden has also become a site to celebrate rites of passage such as weddings, unions, memorial services, and infant dedications. Occasional Sunday services may be held there as well. Gifts which have made and continue to make the Garden a meaningful place for everyone in the congregation are a blessing to us all and ensure that the Garden will remain an outdoor sanctuary to be enjoyed for many generations to come. The Memorial Garden has become a significant addition to our community life.

Eligibility

Current UUCA members and their immediate family (spouses, children, parents) may purchase engraving space. The engraving fee is $1,500, with all funds supporting the care and future of the garden.

Engraving Guidelines

Engravings include a name (formal or commonly used) and dates only.  Pets are not eligible.

Ashes

Ash scattering may occur privately and in accordance with local laws. UUCA does not perform interments or maintain records of scattering.

Garden Additions

Memorial gifts such as plantings or benches must be approved in advance and fit the garden’s overall design. The Subcommittee may manage or remove items as needed over time.  The garden may be expanded as needed with Board approval.
