Longing & Belonging

with

Pianist Eliza Garth
&
Soprano Betsy Bates

Friday, October 6 at 8:00 PM

Longing and Belonging explores the tension between current and past cultures. Featured are soprano Betsy Bates, a Korean-American adoptee and Eliza Garth, the adoptive mother of children from Korea and China. They will explore their roles as outsiders of the Asian cultures – to which they are forever linked – using music from Puccini to contemporary Cage.

Betsy Bates, with a Performance Diploma from Peabody Institute, has served as a professional cantor, music minister and chorister in Maryland, D.C., Virginia and New York. Recently she developed and performed in a program of American musical theatre songs titled The Roles We Play and the Things We Desire. Pianist Eliza Garth has achieved international distinction through her recordings and concert appearances in major cities in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Since graduating from The Juilliard School, Ms. Garth has performed over 200 new works, many written for her.
Concerts are now held on the First Friday of each month [October 6, November 3, and December 1]

November 3 – String Trio with cellist Alan Saucedo & friends, joined by Brian Ganz. Program includes works by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky.
December 3 – Classical guitar with Meng Su.
Tickets are $15 at the door, or you can use your Friday Five Pack for admission.
