Volunteering “It is one of the most enjoyable experiences you can have at UUCA.” – Ashley Fuchs, camp volunteer for 8 years

We are an all-volunteer camp! To be successful, we need YOU! It does not matter if you have no prior camp experience, or even experience with children. There are many different roles, and we can train you and give you easy tools to work with.

Camp Beagle Planning Team: Meets once a month at UUCA or by phone, during the months of February through July. No prior Camp experience necessary!

Phone Support: Running background checks on volunteers and group leaders.

Administrative Assistant: Helping the Administrator with preparing materials needed for Camp.

Setup Crew: The Sunday before Camp begins, we need volunteers to transform the church into the HMS Beagle! This involves clearing the sanctuary of chairs after service, setting up brown bag “cubbies” for the Sailors to keep their belongings, and clearing the grounds to keep the trails safe for young feet to explore.

Deckhand: The Deckhands provide vital support and assistance in a variety of tasks throughout the day to keep Camp running smoothly. They help prepare and serve snacks, make sure water is always available to campers, perform check-in and check-out duties, prepare materials that may be needed during the camp day, cleanup and prepare learning environments, and many other creative problem-solving tasks behind the scenes. Deckhands are the backbone of Camp Beagle operations.

Camp Photographer: Need we say more? This is a somewhat time-flexible position, but must be able to assemble a slide show with music to be viewed on the last day of camp.

Harbormaster: The Harbormasters get to work directly with our wonderful little “Sailors” by teaching a class. If you have a talent, lesson, or skill that you would like to pass on to the next generation, this is the job for you! Past Harbormasters have done everything from share knot-tying skills to teaching evolution by playing tag. The Harbormaster position is one of the most fulfilling opportunities, because you get to share your expertise and passion with each and every camper. Even if you don’t know what to teach, but know that you would like to, we have plenty of ideas that we could offer you. You do NOT need to be an expert to be valuable to our campers! Can volunteer between 1-5 days from 8:30-2:30.

Captain: Captains are paired together and assigned a group of up to 11 children ranging in age from 6 to 10 years old, for whom they are responsible throughout the camp week. Being a Captain provides an opportunity to create meaningful and lasting relationships with the Sailors. The Sailors depend on the Captains to get them from port to port and to keep them safe. You will get to experience Camp Beagle through their eyes – it is truly one of the most fulfilling roles that we have! (Experience with children is helpful for this position.) Must be available Mon-Fri 8:30-3:00

After Camp

Break Down Last Day of Camp, 3:00 pm: Once Camp is over, we must return the church to its normal state. Much of the duties involve collecting trash and recycling and bringing it to the church dumpster, taking down any decorations that need to be removed, and placing lost items in the lost and found.
